This was a 70 min group prototype. We were designing a voting machine that fits the following requirements:
- Allow the voter to select their choice for 5 different election issues and enter text for write-in candidates on a touch screen interface
- Because some states have passed voter ID laws requiring either photo or non-photo identification, the design must allow voters to scan a form of ID, including 1) a photo ID or driver's license, 2) a passport, 3) an 8.5"x11" piece of mail with their address on it, or 4) an envelope-sized paycheck stub with an address on it.
- Allow the voting machine to be raised or lowered to accommodate someone in a seated position (e.g., if the voter uses a wheelchair)
- To support voters with visual impairments, physical buttons of any kind should also support Braille and there should be a place for headphones for listening to verbally narrated content.Print a paper record of the voter's choices
- There should be some element of privacy for the voter in case machines are placed close together
